Tackling the closet.

I finally organized my closet today! I got rid of SO much stuff, it's ridiculous. Not only did my sister end up with about 20 new tops and five pairs of jeans, I have a trash bag full of things for charity. [:

Also, my shopping list is much shorter. I didn't realize how many things I already have! Instead of needing $400, I only need - get this! - $136! (For five long-sleeved tops, one tube top, and two pairs of jeans.) I'm seriously amazed!

Shopping Spree & New Shoes!

I ended up buying the shoes in the below post! They're really comfortable & I got soooo many compliments. Nobody believed me when I said they were from Payless, haha!

Also, I decided to forget about my $400 shopping spree. That's like four months of no-shopping, and I just can't handle that! So, I'll still stick to my list, but just go in shorter bits.

That being said - Spring Break is next week and I'm going to go through my closet and get rid of a lot and also take note of things I already have so that I can refine my list, specifically tops. I love jeans too much to give up any of the ones on my list!

I know this is a short post, especially since they've been few and far between lately, but senior year is sooo stressful. I have two major projects I have to work on - ugh! Only two months left! :]

Ah, fellow readers, it's been so long! Sorry for the brief lack of posts here at CM, I know I've been terribly busy with school & scholarships, & I'm sure the other girls have been just as busy. (You try catching back up after missing a week of school!)

But, let us not think that this week has been wasted. I found the cutestcutestcutest pair of shoes! I'm going to buy them soon for my outing to Six Flags. [:

This pair, from Payless Shoe Source, are very similar to the ones at Old Navy & Forever 21, for just a few dollars less.

While I would prefer ones that are pink, like those found at F21, I like the heel on these better & the color is too fun to pass up. However, this seems to be a hot style this season, so I might end up with two pairs!

I'm going to the mall tonight to try them on, & I'll let everyone know how they feel.

As you girls know, prom is just around the corner and I know that almost all of you are still looking for the perfect dress. I've found some gorgeous dresses that I'm sure you ladies will love. And I have to warn you, they may be on the expensive side, but prom is something you want to remember for the rest of your life, right? So, lets make the most of it.

Longer Dresses:

These dresses are absolutely gorgeous. If you want a more princess-y looking gown, then these are the styles you should go for. Personally, I find that longer prom dresses look a lot classier and more formal as well. If you want more of a casual prom dress look, then look for some dressers that are more shorter in length.

These shorter dresses have a more sexy and playful vibe to them, and they're just as gorgeous as the longer dresses. The type of prom dress you choose should reflect your personal style. Don't be afraid to spend some extra cash for a night you'll remember forever.

Spring Outfits!

This is a really BRIGHT, fun outfit! You wouldn't expect it to work, but it really does. It'd be perfect for walking around in.

Does anyone else love the simple, classic look of this? It's so fresh & clean. Everything looks comfortable & breezy, & goes together really well. I like the color in the bag. I would probably dress them up with some silver bangles on my arm.

I dig this one because it's so simple & clean. I love white, especially in spring, & the bag & tank are too cute. While I like the wedges, I'm not sure if I like wedges with mini-skirts & tanks. I think I would wear a less revealing shirt if I wore those with the skirt. I love the bag, though, it's perfect for a day at the beach!

I absolutely love this outfit! The shorts are adorable & I love that the tank is loose, but still feminine. I'm dying for the shoes! They remind me of boating shoes, but cuter! I don't really like white swimsuits because I'm afraid of them becoming see-through, but this one is cute. I love the little anchors all over it. I think the colors of the top & shorts go really well & the shoes add a nice pop. [:

I really want to go shopping for spring & summer clothing now!

Springtime. [:

Because the weather here in Texas has been so hot lately, I've been in a springtime/summertime mood! This includes makes summer playlists on my iPod, planning Spring Break, and maybe most important - swimsuit shopping!
I went to Target today, and fell in love with the below suit. I figured since I'll be wearing to Six Flags in a few weeks, why not make an entire outfit? So, folks, here you go - my first springtime outfit!

I tried to keep everything young & fun. I know not everyone likes ripped jeans, so obviously you could wear normal shorts. I chose a bright pink because not only is pink my favorite color, but brights are always hot in the spring. The shell necklace gives the outfit a beachy-vibe, & the white flip-flops match not only the top, but also the suit. The beach bag doesn't necessarily have to match anything, but it doesn't contrast so bad to the point where it's horribly tacky. This would be the perfect oufit to spend the day at Six Flags or out shopping!

If you didn't know, this past week was New York Fashion Week, which featured the likes of Zac Posen, Badgley Mischka, Ralph Lauren, and Max Azaria. In honor of this event, I documented my outfits from the past week as well. Actually, only Monday-Wednesday. My outfits on Thursday and Friday were quite boring: just a pair of sweats and a tee. Oh yes, and please excuse my extremely messy room

Day out on the town.
Every girl needs a look that will make her seem classy and fashionable. Whether you're going to school, the mall, or even to your job; an outfit like this will create that highclass look.

This outfit is very chic. It looks classy and it will definately let people know that you're a confident woman. The jacket I decided to pick out is a beautiful red color and paried with a cute coral colored cami underneath, will give the outfit some flare. The jacket is fitted to come in at the waist, giving your body the hourglass shape. It also comes down right to the hip, which is just where you want it. If you're on the shorter side, a jacket like this, will make you look taller. I also paired it with a gray straight leg trouser. Trousers are fabulous if you want to look very professional and sophisticated. If you just want a casual look, just take off the jacket. I added some beautiful champagne colored pumps and a neautral brown bag. Adding a neutral colored bag will keep the outfit in balance. You already have most of the color in the top half of the body. If you add too much color, the outfit will look kind of...clownish which is what you don't want. If you want to dress the outfit down a little, just replace the pumps with a pair of light colored flats.

Nightime Chic
If you're the type of girl who loves to have a girls' night out or even go out on a date, you need a sexy, but classy dress for those night's. And nothing say's classy and chic better than a cute little black and white halter dress. This gorgeous dress is just about knee length with a sexy v-neckline to show off the top half of your body. It also has a white wasit line a little below the bust, creating once again, the hourglass figure. To make it more 'night-on-the-town' add a beautiful metallic shoe and a black clutch bag. To spice it up and add a little more class, add a pearl necklace and a pair of pearl earrings to match. You can never go wrong with pearls!

How to Shop & Organize Your Closet

I’ve recently had a revelation about my clothes – I don’t like most of them! I have a few pairs of jeans (and tops) in rotation, and the others are collecting dust in the back of my closet. What is the reason for this? Well, my style has changed quite a bit in the past year. Once upon a time, I adored baggy things & the ponytail holder was my b.f.f. Now, I love to girly it up. I’ve slowly been incorporating this style into my wardrobe. (And when I say slowly, I mean – a snail crawling through peanut butter would be faster.) I’ve also realized I need to stock up on the basic. (At this current moment, I own two sweaters, and neither one can be worn alone.)

So what did I decide to do about my fashion plight? Why, go shopping, of course! However, I’m not going about this in the same way I usually do – I’ve been planning, saving, and deciding exactly what I want to buy & how much I’m willing to spend. In June, I will have saved $400 (or maybe slightly over,) in order to go on a huge shopping spree & buy everything. (Am I the only one who finds carrying shopping bags full of new stuff to be a very satisfying feeling?)

I started a "Style File;" a notebook filled with clippings of clothes & outfits from magazines. It’s actually really fun to flip through the magazines & put the pictures in the notebook.

I’ve noticed a few trends throughout the pages of my notebook, certain styles that stick out to me. Among the list? Ripped jeans, classically cut khaki shorts, khakis paired with casual tops, short, bright dresses, lots of jeans, bright shoes, large handbags, and girly, feminine styles. I noticed that I like a lot of classic looks, with an updated twist. Even the exercise outfits I’ve cut out are cute, girly, and fun.

I’ve used my "Style File" to help me determine what I want to buy. Before I go shopping, I’ll go through my closet & my dresser & get rid of anything I don’t wear. From what’s left, I’ll determine what I need to buy.

My list so far looks something like this: Flats (Black, white, two fun colors,) Wedges (White & yellow,) Sandals (Three,) Flip-flops (White & Navy,) Jeans (Ripped, dark, & medium,) Basic tops (Cap-sleeved & long-sleeve,) other tops, dresses, and a coat. This list will become more detailed as I continue to create my "Style File," and go through my closet.

When I go through my closet, I will be brutal. I will not keep anything that I don’t wear, even if I "love" it. (If I love it, why haven’t I worn it?) I have tee-shirts that are a few inches too short, yet I insist on keeping them. Come June, these will be donated, along with quite a few other pieces, to charity.

When I do finally venture out, I will be bringing along a list, as well as my Style File! My boyfriend will also be coming along, as well as my best friend and maybe my best gay friend. They’ll all help me to avoid buying things that I know I won’t wear, but for some reason want anyone. (Then again, I might just bring my boyfriend, as he doesn’t rush me & won’t get annoyed with my constant trying on of clothes – another thing I resolve to do! Try on everything & make sure I love it before I buy it.)

On this note, the only thing I won’t be trying on will be shoes, as I will be ordering these online. I feel it’s cheaper this way, and shipping isn’t very much. (Although, I might buy a few basic tops from forver21.com, since I know my size & there isn’t one nearby.)

That is my shopping advice! Hopefully you took some good ideas from it! Now, on to the "organizing your closet" part. [: Please note that this article is from the January 2008 edition of Allure magazine.

"People ignore the inside of their closet on the theory that no one sees it, but it makes a huge difference to open the door to a space that’s beautifully maintained & aesthetically pleasing. If you’re creative – and a little ruthless – you can make all your closets feel spacious & well-organized.

Perk it up. Paint a dingy closet interior a light color so dark clothes are visible. Wallpapering the inside of the door can be elegant, but I wouldn’t choose anything too busy. Every closet should have a strip of fluorescent lights above the door; in a walk-in, the light should be in the center of the ceiling.

Be brutal with your wardrobe. My rule is if you know you’re not going to wear something again, let it go. Lose anything that is stained or damaged beyond repair and anything that doesn’t fit – and you have to be honest with yourself. After the first round of edits, go through everything again. People make the mistake of looking at their wardrobes as a unit; they’ll keep three pairs of black pants because they’re all theoretically practical, even if two of them don’t fit. And ditch at least some of the things you’re keeping for purely sentimental reasons. That doesn’t mean you have to throw out your grandmother’s wedding dress, but if you have a studio apartment, you shouldn’t be drowning in boxes of merit badges.

Hang out. Uniformity is the key to a pleasing closet. Buy matching hangers so your clothes all hang at the same height. I like velvet hangers because they prevent silk pieces, spaghetti straps, and wide-neck tops from sliding off. (& They look gorgeous.) Group categories of clothes together – sleeveless tops together, dresses, short skirts, long skirts, and so on.

Cover lots of ground. The space under your shortest hanging clothes is valuable real estate. For shoe storage, use cubbies or clear, stackable drawers, not boxes, which are a pain to open. The highest space in your closet is where you should put the stuff you use the least – out-of-season clothes, boxes of memorabilia, and so on. Organize it all in clear, stackable boxes with labels so you can see what’s there when you need to get it."

Rain, Rain, Go Away...

So if you live in California, or have been watching the news, then you know about the horrendous storms that are currently present. Now I hate rain because:
1. I have to walk to and home from school
2. I hate carrying umbrellas
3. and as a result of number 2, my hair and clothes always get wet
4. I NEVER have anything cute to wear for rain-weather.
Seriously, I hate wearing rain jackets because they're so bulky and loud. I went on a search for a cute raincoat. and yes, I know winter is almost over, so we wouldn't really need any overcoats. But actually, it is now the best time to buy overcoats, because they're all on sale, and it rains a lot during spring! So here are some of my findings:

I have seriouly fallen in love with Steve Maddens black leather open toed pump. It's sexy and it would look gorgeous with almost anything. The price is about $90 but hey, a girl can splurge a little bit, can't she?

What I love about Steve Madden shoes, is that they're so comfy and last a long time. I have a pair of flatts from him, and they're so comfy and they fit me perfectly. It may be a little pricey, but sometimes if you want the best in fashion, it comes with a price.

Fashion Goals

After browsing various fashion blogs (specifically Style for the SAHM,) I noticed that quite a few of these ladies have their own fashion "goals." For instance, at SAHM, she wants to project an image of an elegant, sophisticated mom, and her clothing reflects that.

This got me thinking, what are my own personal fashion goals? I decided to make a list here, & describe them in detail. This may even help some of you who are looking to make your own goals!

Fashion Goals
1. Finish my "Style File." I've recently began a notebook filled with styles that I like. I'm also planning on writing down things I want/trends I like, etc. I think this will help me "define" my style & will help with shopping. (Again, this idea came from Style for the SAHM.) As soon as I get a little length to it, I'll post pictures here for ideas.

2. Get rid of my old clothes & shoes. My clothes are currently...well, not me. Granted, I do have a few things that I adore, (it's been a slow transition from jeans & tees to the style I like,) but I still have quite a few tee-shirts, jeans, and shoes that either no longer fit or I no longer wear. When it comes time, (I'm thinking June), I will go through each & every piece in my closest & drawers & be brutal. If I don't wear it, to charity it goes. (I'm trying to think of this way...the more I get rid of, the more I get to buy!)

3. When buying clothes, try everything on & make sure that it has something it can go with! This is a huge problem of mine - I'm an impulse shopper. That tee-shirt only comes in XXS? No problem! I'll take three. I need to try things on & make sure that I lovelovelove them rather than blowing money on things that aren't fabulous. Also, they should go with things I already have. (Or I should be willing to buy the entire outfit.)

My list now is pretty short, but I'll update this later. At the moment, I'm typing in a wrist brace & it is a bit difficult.

East vs. West

Across the continent of North American there are differences between the two sides. Thre are some differences between the two coasts as well. If the west coast is The O.C's Marissa Cooper (R.I.P, lol), then the east coast is Gossip Girl's Blair Waldorf.It's the glossy lip and beachy hair versus red lipstick and blunt bangs. With this difference in locale and attitude I decided to do an outfit for each coast, based on each coast's major cities, Los Angelos and New York.This isn't a rap battle, it's a fashion battle.

Liana's List of Fashion Must-Haves

Hello everyone! Here is my list of fashion essentials. I'm keeping this post short and sweet. But I may elaborate on my list later on.

Clothes
1. The Hoodie

Hoodies are amazing. Bright colored ones are even more amazing.
Tip: NEVER wear a hoodie with a dress... that's just gross

2. The Shift Dress

Shift dresses are absolutely classic. They are so unbelievably simple that they could never go out of style. Shift dresses are perfect for a party or a night out in the town.
Tip: When wearing shift dresses, DO not over-accessorize. A simple necklace, earrings, and some heels will do.

3. The Swing Coat

Swing coats are just so fun and swingy. They are perfect for a nice breezy afternoon, and look absolutely amazing with a pair of dark-washed jeans.
Tip: do not wear any necklaces while wearing swing coats.

4. The Tank Top

Basic tank tops are perfect for layering or just wearing them out in the open. They come in so many colors and are just so darn casual. They are perfect to wear for a nice summer day, without showing too much skin.
Tip: Never wear tank tops OVER shirts

5. The Trapeze Dress

Trapeze dresses are similar to shift dresses, except they are more casual, in my humble opinion. They are perfect for a warm summer day.
Tip: wind and trapeze dresses do not make a good combination.

6. The Dark-Washed Skinny Jeans

Dark-washed skinny jeans are extremely versatile. They go with just about any shirt, and rarely clashes with anything. They are absolutely classic, and can be worn casually or for fancy events and whatnot.
Tip: Wear a loose top, such as a tunic, when wearing skinny jeans. Do not wear tight shirts. You want to be sure to keep a balance

Shoes
1. The Red Pumps

Red pumps are fun, daring, and classy. They go wonderfully with anything black, especially black skinnies.
Tip: Do not wear heels with skirts or shorts. In my opinion, that combination is pretty trashy.

2. The Vans Authentics (or Converses)

Got my Vans on, but they look like sneakers... If you are ever in a situation where you can not wear flats, flip flops, or heels for whatever reasons, it's okay, because you have a pair of Vans! They are exactly like sneakers, minus the chunkiness. They go perfectly with a pair of sweats, skinny jeans, or shorts. Converses are also amazing as well.
Tip: Do not get them extremely wet. The shoes are made of canvas, so the water would seep through it and reach your toes pretty quickly.

Accessories
1. The Aviators

Aviators are another classic. Whether they be metal or plastic rimmed, they always look great.
Tip:

2. The Cocktail Ring

Cocktail rings are bold and beautiful. They are the perfect accessory for any occasion, whether it be a day at school or a fancy dinner. They certainly make a statement.
Tip: When wearing a cocktail ring, do not wear any bracelets. Your hand will seem too busy.

3. The Colored Tight

Colored tights make an extremely bold statement. However, you must be careful that when wearing colored tights, the color does not clash with the rest of your outfit, including the shoes.

4. The Beret

Everyone needs a beret, even though winter is almost over. I absolutely love berets. But of course, it must be worn right.

Other Essentials
1. Burt's Bees Lip Balm

Burt's Bees Lip Balm works wonders. It's made of ultra-emollient lanolin, coconut oil and sunflower oil, etc. etc., and it seals in hydration with beeswax.

and I'm leaving you with one last fashion tip that I learned today, which may seem pretty obvious to you:
DO NOT WEAR FLATS IN THE RAIN. I had to learn the hard way.

Alison's Fashion Musts!

Okay, here are my personal fashion musts, for now and for all time (which sounds extremely dramatic, but work with me), but I think they can be tweaked and adjusted according to your personal taste.

Black Ballet Flats

These specific ballet flats are London Sole (Shelley's of London makes nice ones too), but I found some awesome ones at *gasp!* Payless...now, I know, I know what you're thinking,I had to bypass some Velcro shoes to get to them, but it was worth it. Actually Payless has some cute shoes, especially the ones from the designer collaboration with Abaete....but they're usually not very comfy. You get what you pay for,quality-wise, except for the flats I got, which are awesome. They're super comfy. After the first time I wore them, which was on the first day of high school and I ran down the hallway in my Sienna Miller-esque (thank goodness that prairie skirt has now gone to prairie skirt heaven, where it can hang out with Laura Ingalls Wilder) outfit yelling expletitives....Not pretty! lol.

Real or fake, these rock. I also highly recommend pearl studs. They're the go anywhere earring. Same with diamond studs (though I promise not to tell if yours are cubic zoconium....)

An Awesome Sundress
I am such a sundress fanatic, mostly because I am criminally lazy. Hello, instant outfit! I have like, a bajillion (no exaggeration) to wear in the summer. They're so damn comfy and some people harp on dresses for thinking they are constricting, which is wrong, because I can climb a tree in one of those babies. And in the fall and early spring, you can throw a cardigan ontop and you're good to go!

One of my particular favourites is this American Apparel sundress...you can wear it SIXTEEN DIFFERENT WAYS! I know, it's kind of mind boggling. There is even a video.

A Cardigan
I like black cardigans for winter and white for summer (the one pictured below is from Urban Outfitters and comes in a ton of different colours). Grey is also an awesome neutral. You can throw them over anything (like, aforementioned sundress) for when it gets chilly, or when you're at school or work or church. I actually have a huge fondness for cardigans and whenever my sister sees me wearing one she's all like "Hey Grandma!". I just glare at her witheringly.

A Trenchcoat

I love them for spring and fall, especially when it's raining. I have a black belted one, which I love, but beige is nice too. You don't have to go all Burberry for this one, you can find them for good prices in random places. In Canada, try Fairweather, Le Chateau,Bedo, RW&Co., Winners. In the States, try places like Marshall Field's,Target, Urban Outfitters...

White Pants

White pants are awesome for spring and summer. They look a bit more dressed up than jeans, but casual and fresh, plus they're cool, being white. Don't cheap out too much on these, because poor quality shows more on lower quality garments (bad stitching, poor fabric). That's why it's great to go somewhere like Forever 21 or Urban Planet (not to be confused with Urban Outfitters....lol) for black club tops and the like, but not light clothing or big ticket items.

Camisoles
I love camis. White lacy ones are my favourite, but just pick colours that work with your wardrobe so you can layer and whatnot. They're pretty much essential and you can wear them under anything.

My Fashion Philosophy
I believe in buying fairly good quality stuff that you'll wear a lot. I love acessories....you can really put your own stamp on stuff with them. I don't like the idea of mass-consuming fast fashion. I mean, I love my Forever 21 and H&M, but remember to keep it in check, or you'll have tons of sub par things that you've only worn once. It's kind of wasteful too, both of resources and your money. So buy stuff that's versitile and that you love and that you'll wear a lot. Since I'm personally a teenager and growing I always give clothes I no longer need to charity, consignment shops or friends.

No matter what your style or budget is, there are certain must-haves' that every girl should have in her closet. They don't have to be expensive either. Whether you shop luxe or less, these are the fashion essentials every girl should own.

All of the items that Ashlee listed in the below post, is what I also think every girl should own. I'm not going to repost them, because that would just be a repeat of what she already posted; so, I'll just add other items I think are fashion essentials

1. A Denim Jacket(s)
Every girl should have at least one denim jacket. They're very fashionable and they go with anything. They especially come in handy if you don't have a jacket that matches a certain color or outfit. They can make any outfit look completed and put together. I would suggest getting 2 of the denim jackets; one in a dark wash and one in a light wash. My favorite denim jacket is a lightwash and it goes with all of my outfits. I wear it mainly in the spring and fall because it doesn't make me too hot but it also has some warmth to it.

2. An oversized totebag for any occasion
A tote bag is a great way to cary all of your essentials and still look cute. Whether you're going to the mall, school, or just a quick run to the grocery store. a tote bag is a great accessory for any outfit. I would suggest getting a plain black tote to start with. And then adding more colors and styles of bags to your outfits. Pretty soon, you can have a different tote bag for every outfit.

3. A pair of pumps
EVERY girl should have a pair of pumps for those girls-night outs'. A cute open toed black pump is sexy and chic and looks great with any outfit you put together. You can also pair them with a pair of skinny jeans and you'll have a cute 'day out on town' outfit.

There are other clothing items and accessories that I think every girl needs, but that would be way too many to post! Some of the items include headbands, skinny jeans, flatts, and a cute hoodie. Of course some of these items may not be your style, but that's okay. You can always dress your outfits up or down to make your look more comfortable for you. Remember, you don't always have to shop expensive to get the look you want. Take a look around at some smaller stores such as Mervyns, Sears, JC Penny, and Ross. The have cute basic items that could spice up an outfit.

Ashlee's Style Must-Haves

No matter what your personal style, budget, or location is. there are certain things every girl needs in her closet. These are items that never go out of style & are very versatile - they can be mixed & matched with a lot of stuff, so you get more wear out of them. These are things you shouldn't be afraid to splurge on, but are easily found at lower prices. This is my personal list, and in the following days, the rest of the Cashmere Mafia will be posting their lists - I'm certain we'll have at least some items that are the same!

1. Fitted tee-shirts in various colors & neck shapes. Tee-shirts are a great basic to own. You can dress them up or down, and throw them on when you "have nothing to wear." They look great with just about anything, not to mention the comfort factor! My favorite ones are from Forever21 at $4.80 each. They have round-neck tees and v-neck tees, and are the softest tee-shirts I've ever owned. Because they're so inexpensive, you can buy every color! However, the most essential colors in my opinion are black, gray, white, navy, and brown. Any other colors should compliment you.

2. Jeans. Every girl should own at least two pairs - a casual pair and a "formal" pair. (A dark wash pair that can be dressed up or down.) These should be flattering to your figure - if skinny jeans look great on you - go for it! But if they make you look like an ice-cream cone, don't wear them just to be trendy. One of my personal fashion mottos is "You can never have too many jeans!" My favorite ones are from American Eagle. (Specifically, the "Artist" jean.) They go on sale often, so if you don't like the $40 price tag, wait a few weeks & they'll probably be on sale. Shop around for your jeans until you find ones you love. Don't settle for something that's just "eh" because it's cheap. Remember, it's quality, not quantity.

3. Camis. Camisoles, if nice enough, can be worn either alone or under other things. They make great layering pieces & nice items in the summer. They should be fitted, but not too tight, and longer, but not too long. You can get them in just about every color & they're usually relatively cheap. My favorite ones are from a boutique where I live, but you can them almost anywhere. The ones below are only $2.5o from Forever21.

4. The LDB! Irregardless if you're a dress gal or not (I most certainly am!), everyone needs the little black dress. Preferably, two - one for spring/summer & one for fall/winter. There will be that one event where you need to look nicer than just jeans & sneakers, and the LBD is always a no-fail option. Go for a length that you're comfortable in, and a nice fabric that you like. My personal LBDs? My summer one is a little shorter than the knee & a halter. It's made out of a fabric that is light enough for day, but warm enough, when paired with a cardigan, for the cool summer nights. My winter one is slightly longer than the knee and has longer, floaty sleeves. Your LBDs don't have to be boring - choose something that represents you! If all else fails, choose something basic - you can dress it up with accessories.

5. Undergarments. Undergarments are obviously a very personal matter, but nonetheless - they are important to an outfit. Nothing looks worse than a nice sweater with back-fat from a too tight bra, or visible panty lines. (VPL.) Whatever kind you choose, make sure it fits you properly.

Other items, just as shoes, accessories, dresses, are up to you. For me, I love dresses & wedges, so these are a staple in my wardrobe. However, to a jeans and tee-shirt kind of girl, these might not be high on her "to-buy" list. Never limit yourself to one set style. If you see something you adore, but it doesn't fit your "style," ask yourself if you'll actually wear it. If you can imagine yourself wearing it with items you already have, don't be afraid to buy it. (Though this shouldn't be a regular occurance, as then you'll have tons of mis-matched clothes and nothing to wear!)

On a side-note, I also consider make-up an essential. I love make-up, and while the natural look is my favorite look, I like to play with different colors. So my make-up must-haves? A foundation that matches your skin, an eyelash curler, mascara, and chapstick!

So, I'm Ashlee. I'm seventeen & I live in Texas. I'm currently a senior at the largest high school in my state & will soon be going to a college near the coast. [: I had the idea for this blog after reading many other fashion & beauty blogs (check out the "Hit List" on the right!) and noticing that none seemed to be aimed at teens. This isn't to say that these blogs are "bad," quite the contrary. I enjoy these blogs fully, hence why I wanted to start my own. I didn't want to go it alone, however, so I teamed up with four other friends & then, The Cashmere Mafia was born! I intend to use this blog not only to show my outfits, give advice, thoughts, et cetera, but also as a way to track my progression from the style I have now to the style I want. My current style is very laid-back and easy. Think jeans, sneakers, and fitted tees. I'm looking to move to something less boring, more girly, just generally more "me." I love oversized bags and totes, but I hate carrying them, because I never have anything to put in them, and I find them to be a bit of a hassle. I love wearing the color black, not because I'm "emo", but because I believe black is an extremely classy color. I believe that every girl should have at least one pair of dark-washed skinny jeans, a pair of black pumps, colored tights, and an LBD.

Hey everyone! I'm Alison, and I hail from Ontario, Canada. I would describe my style as all over the place (but never tacky...well, not usually). I'm trying to find my signature"look". I'd like to say ladylike and put together, but I'm the type of girl whose nails are usually chipped and whose stockings usually have a run in them. I like quirky vintage clothes paired with more modern pieces so that it doesn't get too costumey. So I'd say girly with a twist. I shop everywhere, from Hollister to thrift stores to American Apparel, though I am interested in becoming a more concious consumer and buying environmentally friendly and sweatshop-free clothing (so, I can feel less guilty about my shopping...haha). Above all, I like to feel comfortable in my clothes, because feeling comfortable makes you feel confident and being confident is always in fashion. Though I sometimes make mistakes (let's not repeat the Day-Glo legwarmers of grade 7 incident, EVER, again.) I always find that is way more fun than being boring!
